I haven't been to download.com in years but I thought cnet was a trusted site. I downloaded Scribus yesterday and with it came download.com installer that I tried to remove to trash and it states, "Unable to uninstall." Both Chrome and Safari changed to Yahoo. In preferences, Yahoo isn't even on the list of search engines. I finally (for now) got Chrome back and changed Safari (so I thought) but Safari opens and then when searching for anything, it changes to Yahoo.

I'm at a loss and after reading stories about this same problem, I wonder if I should restore to factory settings. It's going to be a process because I have a lot of back up to do before I restore.

Before I take that step, has anyone found themselves in this mess and if so, how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance!!!
