download from iCloud issue

I have been downloading photos from iCloud to an iMac (Mohave). some of the folders end up in the upper left corner with the edges of the folder barely visible. any idea why this happens? most of the folders are somewhere on the desktop, fully visible.

Prior positions of those folders are stored incorrectly. Right click on the desktop and select "clean up". That should arrange all content in visible area.

thanks .... just did a fresh installation on a new iMac ... have never had this problem before.
