Download links in Safari not working after SL update?

When I click on a link to download anything in Safari I get a gray screen and a spinning "loading" message to the right of the url box, rather than the download actually happening. The only way that I can download from a link is by bringing up the secondary menu by two-finger tapping on the download link and then selecting "save linked file..". Anyone else having this issue, or is it a setting that needs to be changed?
