download older version of an app

I reinstalled itunes on my computer and it deleted two apps from my ipod touch. I tried to redownload one of the apps but it was for a newer version of the iphone. I want to know if i can use itunes to download an older version of the app which would work on my ipod.

As far as I know, there's not a way to get an old version unless you have the old file you downloaded (i.e. a backup of the apps you used to have on your computer).
