I'm hoping to download the file on my work computer (much faster internet) and apply it using iTunes later at home.

Is there a server where I can download the new software from?

They're legit. The links come straight from apple http://phobos.apple.com/version.

Yep, having been through the 2.0 firmware midnight rush, I know these links are legit (although it doesn't appear to be directly from Apple).
