Hi,
Just have a basic question i have wondered about for awhile now.
When i download a program to my mac i always end up with a icon of the download on my desktop. It looks like a external HD or a zip drive symbol.
What exactly is this and what do i do with it?
Thanks
Shawn

It's called a disk image...

If you want to keep the program, drag the application's icon to the Applications folder on your hard drive. You can then eject the disk image and throw away the .dmg file.

Thanks,
That cleans up my desk top.
Although it did not work for toast and firefox.
Just copied it to applications and than would not let me delite the disk image.

It should work. In addition to copying the app over to your Applications folder, make sure the copy of the app on the disk image isn't open. Then make sure the disk image is ejected before trying to trash the .dmg file.
