I just purchased a MacBook Pro [Retina], and I want to install Windows 7. Can I download Windows 7 from the Microsoft website, and install it via bootcamp, or will I need an external HDD. I do have a fairly large USB drive available if that would be helpful.

Thanks.

Rather than downloading a full retail version of Win 7, then going through the hassle of burning an ISO DVD copy, why not just buy a boxed version. The price is the same. The best solution is to buy an OEM 64 bit Win 7 Pro version from a computer store. You may have to buy a piece of hardware to qualify for the OEM version, but you will still save well over $100 off the full retail version.

Yes. You can download it and the Boot Camp Assistant will build a nice USB install key for you and partition your hard disk/SSD. No need for external disc, no need for DVD media since you don't have a SuperDrive in that model.
