Hello all

Hope some can help me with a application for downloading videos from youtube and to my MacBook.

Thanks all

You can also go into Activity Monitor and find the video that's downloading and play it.

It's called Safari Activity Window and a guide on how to use it can be found here: Use Safari’s Activity Window to Save YouTube Videos (and More)

Activity Monitor is found in Applications / Utilities and looks like this:

benthewraith, you can't embed images into your signature.

Much Easier Method:

If you are using Safari 5 and have extensions enabled, install this extension. When you go to a video's page on YouTube, a button labeled "Download Video" will appear next to the "Subscribe" button. Click it and choose between 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p, etc. Once you pick which quality you want to download, the video will start downloading straight to your computer.

There is a similar plugin that works for Chrome and Firefox (Firefox requires another plugin, GreaseMonkey, to be installed first).

Edit: Apparently the 360p download option no longer works as of today. Only 480p and above now work. This sucks. My iBook G4 can only handle the 360p videos... any higher and it stutters and freezes.

download audio files from youtube

post the youtube video URL into

http://www.listentoyoutube.com/

and it will spit out an MP3 of the video for your enjoyment. So if you can only find that dj Young Redd Screw tape on YouTube, or you want a Wookie shout as a ring tone, this is a great solution.

it's not a video but it's a cool way to get audio from youtube.

Download YouTube videos

If you want to d/l a YouTube video and do it quickly and easily, do this:

Use Firefox.

Bring up your add-ons window under "Tools." Do a search and when you find it, install the "UnPlug" add-on and restart Firefox.

Go to the page that has the video you want and click the UnPlug icon on your toolbar (if you set it to appear that way in your preferences) or if it's not on your toolbar, go to Tools>UnPlug in your Firefox menu bar and it will do its magic and give you a button to download the video to your HD.

If you care about security, don't ever watch any Flash embedded videos through your browser. Download everything to your hard drive and play them. It's a double bonus that they'll play smoothly as well.
