Downloaded PDF’s problem

I was wondering if someone could help me I’ve gone through the Internet to try and come up with a solution to this problem and haven’t found any and I figured somebody on these boards would be able to assist. Basically I would like to free up some space on my iPad so I wanna remove some PDF files that I’ve downloaded onto my device. But at the same time what I would also like to do is remove them from my device without deleting them from the iCloud. How exactly do I go about accomplishing that?
