When I get a new machine, I either move the old machine's content directly to the new machine using Apples utility or, in the case of desktops, I start from scratch and recreate all my old applications and download the content for Apple Music and Photos, which takes a long time due to the very slow Apple server connection times (I have a 1.2 Gbs connection).
Since Apple Music does not have an option to download all purchased music (why I have no idea), I usually create a smart playlist which contains all my purchased music. I then ask it to download all the content of the playlist. My Apple Music library is just over 10,000 tracks, which is not particularly big.
Some observations:
1. It always gets errors that require me to go back to try again several times ( 3 or 5 is typical) (usually 100 to 200 errors in my 10,000 song library)
2. There are always a significant number of items that it cannot download so I go to my back ups and restore it from the backup. Apple Music basically tries to steal my purchased content (typically 30 to 40 tracks from my library) each time I do a restore.
3. It incorrectly refuses to download what it thinks are duplicates since the duplicates may be the same song on a different album and this changes almost on a daily basis. I end up with albums with missing tracks because they are included on another album.
Since this is all purchased content, I find Apple Music's unreliability somewhat disconcerting. They basically are incapable of restoring a library from the cloud without error and continuously try to ‘steal’ my purchased content.
Question for anyone out there. Do you experience the same thing or is my experience unique and do you have any clever work arounds you use to avoid the issues, if you have them?
I have sometimes taken the backup and linked Apple Music to it, but it takes forever to relink the cloud and then it throws more errors than I am willing to deal with. I am very unimpressed with Apple Music. And some of the choices they make (e.g. changing the way you rename a playlist, why?) and keep moving options around is completely unwarranted. Anyway, just thought I would find out if I was alone or uniquely afflicted or it is just the price we pay for trying to use Apple Music (BTW I use Apple Music because I can purchase content easily unlike Spotify which is basically a playlist driven radio station.
Thanks for your help.
