Would it ever be conceivable to be able to download files (such as MP3's from Amazon's music store) onto the iPhone.

Would you HAVE to invoke some sort of "disk mode" in order for this to work?

There are hints that 3.0 will allow users to download attached MP3 files from e-mails into the iPod application.

That's just one little thing but it certainly hints at the possibility of more stuff like this coming in the future.

Ugh... that entire thread was a hoax.

No, I don't see downloading files through safari coming anytime soon. It would require user-accessible disk space, which they don't want for a few reasons.

Why don't you think Apple hasn't enabled file transfer over bluetooth? Simple, it can be used to transfer music, which they don't want for a few reasons.

You can download files from the net to your iPhone with the following apps; iStorage, Folders, or iDownload. Problem is, you cannot directly add mp3s to your music library. To do this, you have to sync with iTunes.

If you jailbreak there's a download plug in for Safari on Cydia. Then you can play downloaded media using dTunes (also on Cydia). Still doesn't put the music in with your itunes synced music but pretty close anyway.
