Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum so any hello's or advice people want to pass on would be lovely. I have been trying to download a game from the internet and it keeps just giving me a textedit doc and I dont know what to do to get to play it! Any ideas? I am probably being a total div!

You are downloading a torrent by the sounds of it and also it is illegal in many countries (Unless your in the EU and you own said game).

Hang on, I want to know more about this.
In the EU you're legally allowed to download a pirated game so long as you own the original?

I've done this in the past (Worms Armageddon, even in BIG BOX format) but had no idea it was legal.

If it is for backup I think it is OK just make sure you own the original, Personally I'd just backup the game myself.

Nope but there are articles around if you search which I can't be bothered to do at this time.

So is this actually true or just something you heard from a friend or at college or something? Because this sounds like one of them there computar myths.
I'm pretty sure it's illegal to download content you own in another format. The same law applies to owning an LP but feeling the entitlement to download a new MP3 version of the song.

Let's not write the OP off for downloading pirated software just yet.

Trustington, can you give us a link to where you're attempting to download the game from?

I'm not sure about "legal". More like it wouldn't stand up in court.

I'm almost entirely positive that it is illegal. You can make a backup from your CD but you can't download another persons.

Could you give us more information about this? We don't have a lot to go on, so can only speculate.. hence the slightly off topic debate.:)

While wikipedia is hardly the definitive source, this article might be of interest to others on this thread.
