I am pretty new when it comes to using IMAP; more used to POP3 protocols.

Is there anyway by which I can download my email from my IMAP server to my Mail inbox and delete my server mail without deleting my inbox mail.

Basically I want to download all my email off the server and delete them from the server; keeping my inbox copy safe.

Thanks in advance!

The only way would be to move the messages from your IMAP inbox to a local mailbox.

Assuming you are using mail.app, create a new mailbox by going to Mailbox->New Mailbox, then when given the option, choose the location as 'On My Mac'

Now, move messages from your IMAP inbox to this new mailbox. They will then be on your local machine only and no longer on the IMAP server.
