Has anyone ever downloaded fonts from this site http://www.dafont.com/ to OS X? If so, can you tell me what I need to do? The site mentions something about the files being compressed and having to expand them? How do I do that?

And has anyone used these fonts on the Gimp? ( www.gimp.org ) Do they work on it? I'm trying to get new fonts to use on the Gimp.

Yes. Dafont has mostly TrueType fonts (TTF). They usually come in a ZIP file — just double-click to expand, then double-click the font file to open it in FontBook and click "Install". Or, you could manually place the file in your /Library/Fonts/ folder.

These files appear to be ZIPped. MacOS X should unZIP them automatically. If not, follow this procedure:

1. Download the file.
2. Single-click it to highlight it.
3. Select the File > Get Info menu item or press [apple]+[ i ].
4. Within the *.zip Info dialog box, be sure the Opens with: arrow is rotated down. From the pop-up menu, select BOMArchiveHelper.
5. Click the Change All... button.
6. Click the red button at the top of the dialog box.

You're done.
