Are there any benefits(speed)in using the usb ports on the back of the cpu versus using the usb port on the side of the keyboard?

what keyboard do you have? if its the new slim aluminium keyboard then in has usb2 ports so it will be the same speed as the ports on the back. any keyboard prior to that has usb1 ports so it will be slower. but im not sure if the keyboard port has enough power to use a camera.
