So I’m trying to download podcasts to my watch to take on a run but the entire thing seems clunky. Ideally I want to say play a podcast on the watch, maybe finish it later from same location on the phone.

Podcast app, I set it to download a certain station, set it on charger, didn’t seem to do anything, up in morning nothing downloaded. Set it to download individual podcasts, it worked, result. Problem being it downloaded a lot of played episodes, I mean why? If they’re played on the phone why would I want them on the watch?

Overcasts worked the best of them all, however didn’t sync played position to phone, so I could be 30 mins in on watch the phone still thinks I’ve not played it. Another annoying thing being I use the Runna app for my runs, it reads out pace etc at certain points, when it does this it cuts out overcasts and doesn’t resume again, I have to stop and mess around to get it playing again.

Pocketcasts, this was my go to app on the phone but at £39 for the privilege of downloading to my watch that can sod off.

Anything better or where am I going wrong?

Do you use Spotify? That allows downloading and may allow you to maintain session.

What model of Watch? My series 3 takes forever to sync anything.

Also, check that you are on the same Wi-Fi as your phone.

I used to use iCatcher! for this purpose - might be worth a try? Although I've not used it for a while since the BBC prevented third-party apps from accessing the latest episodes of their podcasts...

I am using Overcast since years now for listening to podcasts while running and have no noteworthy issues with it. Syncs positions in 99% of the cases without a problem.
When I am in a hurry and want to continue listening on my iPhone though, I manually start the sync on my watch to speed it up. Then, the position is almost instantly available on the iPhone.

Also, the overall sync of podcast files works like a charm for me. Something I never experienced with the Apple podcast app.
iCatcher is cool too, but I do not like the iPhone app as I like Overcast.
