I know this was the case with my 1st gen iPad but I have an Air 2 now and hoping it has changed. I have two Apple IDs (one Canada, one US). Main purchases are from Canada ID. There is a great sale on Curious George TV seasons I'd like to get for my kids but it's in the US store. If I bought those and downloaded some to the iPad, would it then be locked to that Apple ID for 90 days? I'm hoping they have stopped that ridiculousness.

Unfortunately they still exercise that "ridiculousness" you mention.
Your best bet is to set up automatic download on another device you are using or just log in and download the show without bothering automatic download jargon at all. This is what I am doing with my two accounts. Buy, download, and say good bye.
