Hi Not sure if it is just my mac...but after upgrading to maverick, downloading a say 6G file now takes hours and hours....when before I was using SL or ML, it used to take 2 hours tops. What is happening? Are others having the same problem??

No problem for me. It's probably impossible for anyone to say what's happening for you without detailed investigation, since many many things can affect download speeds.

I'd want to try a dedicated bandwith speed checker (e.g. http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) with the computer plugged into two different physical networks, using different ISPs, to rule out router and ISP problems.

Ok done the test. My ISP has downloading speed of about 19 Mbps which is normal. So am not sure why actual download of big file is slow....

Who is providing your 6GB file? Are they up to the job? Many providers throttle downloads, especially when they are large.
