Downloads disappeared from my desktop

Out of the blue, the "downloads" icon disappeared - don't know how it happened. It was next to the applications & documents folders in the bottom right, but suddenly vanished. Does anyone have any idea how to get it back?

Restoring Folders to the Dock

Just drag and drop it back from the Finder. You probably dragged it off the bar on mistake (happened to me several times).
