Downloads not going to desktop

I have it specified in the firefox preferences, but it is going to the desktop. do I need to specify it elsewhere?

this is where I have it going to: /Users/myname/Desktop/downloads
but it goes to /Users/myname/downloads

Do you have a folder on your Desktop named "downloads?"

no. But I just made one and nothing moved to there when downloaded.
