Is there any easy way to downsample songs onto my iPod Photo from my iTunes library like the way the shuffle does it? I have most of my songs in Lossless but would like to fit as many as possible on my iPod Photo for backup purposes. I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything.

Thanks!

When your iPod is connected, look in Preferences - you can ask iTunes to autofill a random selection from a playlist, and you can also ask it to only choose 25 songs from each playlist

Actually, that's not really what I was looking to do. I have them all as Lossless files and I'd like to find a way to put them on my iPod Photo as 128k and 192k files. When I put them on my shuffle, they are automatically sized down to 128k.

Any suggestions?

I believe in itunes if you set the prefs for importing to what you want them, then select the songs you want changed (trust me so far) in your library and go to the "advanced" menu and do "convert songs to (whatever you set, example: mp3)"

Hope this helps.

In a word, no. This is a feature exclusive to the iPod shuffle.

That's what I was afraid of. It'd be sweet if they'd incorporate that feature into the others as an option.

Yeah, I dont want to only have space for my 1400 lossless files on a 30GB..

There's an Applescript at Doug's Applescripts that does this for you. I haven't tried it but apparently it works fine, even syncing the play data (placy count etc) aacs on your ipod with the lossless on your itunes, but I'm holding out for it as a feature in the new itunes, so i won't have to bother with the script.

With the iphone only having 8GB, they'll have to include it as a feature. Whether or not they extend it to regular ipods is not certain however.

Yeah, the Applescript is Lossless to AAC workflow, I use it for just that and it works just fine.

You either re-rip your CDs or if the files are still on your computer, you can convert them to whatever

Preferences -> Importing...::: from there you can change what you convert into

Then highlight the music and then Convert into...
