I banished my default dock. I had too many apps for it to be useful! I used to use Applications folder in SL but since Apple removed the ability to have subfolders in the Applications folder, that too was cumbersome with so many apps! Launchpad is 'okay' it looks nice but I have way too many 'junk' icons that it dumped on there - icons which you can't even click on because they can only be opened from within another app... Adobe stuff is bad for that!

My solution! I installed Drag Thing... How did I NOT know about this app before??? I have tabs on it, and I customized it to look like it is part of the OS. Same colour, transparency etc. Best part is, I can also add the trash can, finder etc to a system tab. I no longer had a use at all for the built in dock... so I searched for a way to permanently disable it (at least until I choose to enable it again) to prevent it from popping up when I don't want it to. I am using another little app called Dock Gone. It takes the dock out of the way without actually disabling it from the system (and causing other things to not function in the process). It says it's compatible with SL, but I have been using it on Lion all evening now, with no issues.

Oh, and you can even use Drag Thing at the TOP of the screen minimized so the tabs stick down from the menu bar!

Awesome app! It's shareware and I fully intend on supporting the dev.....a couple of paydays from now! :)
