Heylo, and yes I know this is a topic much discussed before.

So less than 5 hours ago I decided to reformat my 32-bit Windows XP Professional (also shared by Leopard). I didn't know exactly how to go about it, because this is my first time reformatting after a very long time. I looked it up and it was recommended that I get rid of the Bootcamp partition by using Disk Utility in Leopard. I got rid of it and while I went to repartition the harddrive for Windows, it said "verification failed".

Now I did look this up. Many people recommended rebooting the computer from the Mac OS Installation Disk (I used Disk 1), and then I went to Utilities > Disk Utility.

The first time I did this I was wrong because I selected the Macintosh HD volume and hit Repair Disk. Later when I still for the verification failed error, I realized that I was supposed to repair the disk in itself. Now, I don't know if there was any particular order to this, but I hit Repair Disk, and it said everything was in order, and so was the Mac HD. Then I clicked on Verify Disk and surprisingly I had no problems. It also scanned the Mac HD and that went fine as well.

So, taking it for its word, I booted back into Leopard (as I normally would) and went to BootCamp Assitant, but it's still giving me this error.

Am I missing something here? If test scans said my disk was fine, then it very well should be. For most other people who were in this same situation as me got it working after repairing the start up disk. Would anyone know what's up with this?

Also, another solution I read about was AppleJack. I installed it, but I'm not very good with the Terminal and although I did read the ReadMe file that came with it, I didn't really understand (is anyone willing to walk me through using AJ instead?). Also there is "fsck" but I don't know if either of these methods are worth running if Disk Utility is "lying" to me.

I'd rather not use third party software (and non-Bootcamp ways) seeing that this should have been working to begin with.

My only other theory to fix this without using any other kinds of software is to boot into Leopard from its installation CD, then under the "Partition" tab in Disk Utility, part the drive for Windows XP. When all that's done, shut down and reboot the system but from the XP CD instead and start installing Windiws from there? I don't know how well this solution will work. Even if it did, can I still install the BootCamp drivers from the Leopard CD even though I did not set up this Windows partition through Boot Camp? Also, I might be missing out on other BootCamp options like choosing which OS as a Startup Disk.

Please help! I used Windows for my video games and my 4 week long summer break is in 2 days!

I know this has turned out more complicated than it should have been, but please help. The only consolation I'm taking from this crisis is that I have backed up data thoroughly on both OSes--on the Mac and the XP just before I wiped it clean.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.- If it helps, I'm on a Santa Rosa Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, 2.4 GhZ.
