I have the MX (2004) version of Dreamweaver, on an iMac (1.6, 512mb).
The app has worked perfectly, but this morning when I click the icon either in finder or the dock it will not open.

It ssems to start. but then i get the spinning ball, and it just stops.

Please help.

Once I had the same problem.

Just delete the Dreamweaver's preferences file and it should work :)

(I don't have Dreamweaver installed at the moment, so this is based on the generic method.)

Navigate to the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder (where ~/ is your home folder) and find the file called com.macromedia.dreamweaver.plist (or something very similar, or, if that doesnt exist, see if there's a Macromedia folder with something similar in it).

Throw the file and empty Trash and see if the app doesn't start.

aaah, you are geniuses.
Deleting the preferences file worked.

What was the problem and what caused it?

Some times files get corrupted, and every once in a while this happens to preference files. And when that is happening the app will not be able to read it as it always does at startup to customize settings based on your choices (i.e. preferences) and refuse to start (or crash or hang or do whatever nasty thing apps may do... ;))
