I just bought a WD 2tb My Book Studio II with quad interface and I connected it through a Simpletech Prospeed esata PCI express card in a new Mac Pro Octa 2.8ghz. The drive operates normally except when I want to shut it off. If I drag the hard drive to the trash, the drive spins down and goes to sleep, but if I push the power button to turn it off it doesn't do anything and stays in sleep mode. (I can remount it through disk utility and I can also start the drive while my mac pro is on no problems.) If I unplug the esata cable, then I can power it off. Also, If I connect the drive through any other of the connections (firewire 400/800/usb) it shuts off when I press the power button.

Does this mean the hard drive or the pci card is not hot pluggable... hot swappable? Hope that all makes sense.

Thanks in advance.
