First post and new member. I just purchased a new Mac Pro Tower. 12-core with 12GB RAM. My question is about the hard drive. I am a firm believer in keeping just OS and Apps on the boot drive. Therefore, the 1GB drive seems like a lot of wasted space to me. I have an iMac with a 320GB drive and with all my apps, it still has about 140GB available. I have two other drives at my access right now. A Maxtor 250GB 7200RPM and a WD 500GB 7200RPM. Would it make sense to put one of these in as the boot drive (clean install of Mountain Lion) and move the 1GB drive that came with the Pro to a data drive?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you all may have.

Just get a SSD as boot drive. It is not as cheap as a regular HDD, but it will make your Mac fly.

I would recommend the Samsung 830 256GB.
