Drivers for Microsoft Intelligent 4000 Keyboard and Logitech VX Revolution Help

I just downloaded and installed the software for the two devices named above and am having trouble setting the functionality of the buttons.

For example, both devices have back and forward buttons for browsing the web, but only the back button works.

I did see another thread where someone mentioned not to install the Logitech software, but wasn't clear on what other options I have to use all of the features of the mouse.

Any suggestions?
