I've been doing backups to 4TB Seagate HDDs.

I started doing the backups at the office on an OWC USB-C dual drive dock.

The drives are formatted macOS Extended Journaled, GUID.

I brought the drive dock home to continue the backups but left the power cable at work so I switched to using a USB-C drive dock I have at home.

When I put the drive in the home drive dock wouldn't read the drive.

I thought that was weird but I didn't worry, formatted the drive and started over.

Since then I've done the rest of the backups at home using my home drive dock.

I finally got the power cable for the OWC drive dock at home and put one of the drives in the OWC dock and ran into the same issue I had with the home dock.

Has anyone run into this?

Any suggestions on how to make it so the drives can be read in both docks?

Review the chip sets of each enclosure. My guess the chipsets are using different block sizes which are incompatible with each other. Format in each enclosure and review the block size using diskutil info.

Thanks for the help! I will look into that and report back here. I'm guessing there is no way to make it so drives can be read on both docks? I've never encountered this before. Is it because the drives are 4TB?

It's a classic SNAFU -- combination of things which individually seem normal but together they break. My guess is one of your enclosures uses the JMicron chipset and one doesn't. Unfortunately the way JMicron handled things is not the way others did. There may be a firmware upgrade or similar for the JMicron enclosure and/or you could force the Seagate drive into 4Kn mode which should then show up the same in either enclosure.
