OK ok ok!

I have to switch tween MAC and PCheese often.

Now when I first got on my iMac I noticed that it takes alot of hand and arm movement to cross the great expanse of screen real estate conpared to the Pcheese.

Got the land of Preferences and speeded it up a bit in mouse control.

But its still not enough, for my tastes./

When I get on the Pcheese I can't get anythign done ..LOL
Because I am always Over shooting items because I have been getting used to the extra effort on the MAC!

Now I realize that I could slow down the tracking on the PCheese.

But I like it faster with less arm movement!

There has got to be a third party or a OSX hack that will speed this baby up, before I blow a fuse!

Its obvious that I am not really a mellow person when it comes to computers, or very much else at this point,,,

Macally

macally has its own drivers for their mouses. Under OS 9, you could use the Macally contole pannel to make the mouse move faster than the OS control pannel could make it move. Macally has a beta driver for OS X but it dosnt work very well. It has been a while since I have checked it out.. so there could be a working one now. Oh... and I think they only work with their mouses. I like to have a wheel and 2 buttons so I dont use my Apple mouses. That might help you out ... if you can part with your apple mouse and if it works for OS X the way it did for OS 9

Thanks Evil~

Actually I am using or have tried 2 other mouses.

A logictech which doesnt help or work well. optical.

and an optical M$ <cough cough > mouse top of the stinkin line...

There has to be a OSZ line command that increases mouse speed.

How does everyone else deal with this issue.

I just find it hard to believe that the mouse speed option in OSX is so slow!

H E L P ... drowning here.....

You don't need drivers for the MacAlly mice for OS X. You can increase the speed in the mouse system preference panel, it's that easy. I have the iOptinet on my TiBook at home, and have adjusted the speed to where I like it. Minimal hand/arm motion to move it completely acrosss the screen.

oh crap, its Alpha Tech!

Damn Now i have gone and attracted the attention of AlphaTech ...

Maybe if I just put downthe computer and walk away slowly...

No ..too late for that I think he's seen me!

better bluff my way through this..< hope he didnt read that

Uhh AlphaTech , hows it going~

I did speed it up in systempreferences control panel.
Its still very slow..
You know of another method to speed the mouse up>/?

running to other side of soccer field!

There is an OSX command line code, i know it, I can feel it,,,,

He he he... I posted a thread like this when I was a newbie and got flamed to hell and back for it! Nice to see things have changed somewhat :)

I'll see if I can find that old thread...

true

True you do not need the Macally drivers to use their mouses with OS X. I dont use them my self. But ... back in the days of OS 9, the macaly drivers gave you to power to assine key combos to buttons and make the tracking speed faster than the build in OS controle pannel. I suggested Grokgod look into it as a a posible solution to speed things up byond the OS.

Thanks Beej~

Well AlphaTech didnt nuke me offa the west coast of the planet.
Maybe he didnt see me after all.

i dont think I am a newbie thats for sure, I have used Macs for quite a while,
this is my first laptop with a USB mouse, so that could be part of the problem,

why did you get flamed for it? I wouldnt mind reading that thread.

I would like to get that command line code, that seems to be the way to go.

i never liked 'mouse acceleration' in macs, not sure if it's different now, but thank god i use a wacom tablet.

Here's one that I like better-- it's a Cocoa PrefPane that has one slider and is very simple yet elegant. Give it a try.

It's called MouseZoom.

YYEEeeassss Mouse Zoom!

That looks like what I want.. Mmm thanks so much..

Now what is with the weird installation ..put it in what,, damn my girlfriend came with better instructions!

Ok inhale420 , put down the bong and tell me something... have you seen a adapter to make a serial wacom work on a usb mac..
Cause I go tthis big a$$ tablet that i was using with my Pcheese but now i wanna hook it to the mac,,, any ideas.

Yes I ahve thought that I might have to buy a whole new tablet, but let me tell you that this puppy is huge and it cost huge!

i am going to read that mouse tread right now!

Ahhh you didnt get flamed so bad at all, I thought you were going to the hospital the way you were talking. ;)

Well the command line version isn't that hard:

defaults write "Apple Global Domain" com.apple.mouse.scaling [value]

Where [value] is a value from 0 to 10, 0 being REALLY slow and 10 being REALLY fast. The fastest you can get with the Mouse prefpane is 1.7.

So if you use this "hack" there's no need for a program that does it for you, but it's easy to forget, so I'd still go with the MouseZoom.

Hey Grokgod, the reason I didn't nuke you was because I left work and had to make a few stops... Riding the Harley usually extends my commute time because it is such a dream to ride. :D

Are you using the LCD on the TiBook or an external screen?? I have my mouse pref's set to 3 lines from fast and I only have to move my wrist about 45° to go from one side of the screen to the other. No arm movement needed at all. I would imagine that if you have a screen with higher resolution then the display (of the new TiBook) you would have to travel more, but not much.

I would hope that MacAlly does come out with something for OS X so that you CAN program the buttons. That is, unless you can find some other OS X native generic drivers that work with their mice...

Some have suggested that the plural of computer, er, mice, should be 'meeces' - to distinguish from the furry animal variety. In fact, although I don't have it in from of me, I think that the Wired Dictionary used this alternative spelling.

Hey AlphaTech ~

Hope you had a nice ride!

I am using the Ti's lcd.
I agree with the 45 degree wrist movement, but its hard to explain but it isnt always like that, ok , i know it sounds strange. My only thought it that I got used to a very fast tracking speed on other computers.

I think that mousezoom may be my answer

Yet, the installation readme say to put it into the home library preferencepanes folder, But there isnt one, strangely enough.

THen they say you may have to make one!
Weird variable~

oh its a funny day today!

Oh yeah... I remember this one now... I found it a while after the other one. I forgot :) I've not used it since I got my new system, (but I've just installed it again). There were no strange confilicts. It's not really something that can screw anything up.

I've set mine on 2. But 10 is fun :) What's yours on?

Oh Yea baby this is the BOMB!

Oh happy happy ,,joy ,joy!

This Mousezoom is awesome, it makes my MAC seem SO much faster!

I am really happy about this. I know its a little thing but those are the things that make me happy or crazy!

I would like to thank all that helped make this special moment come true.

I would like to thanks the academy and all those little people.

But a special thanks out to BEEJ, without his help I would have never been able to accomplish this.....

WHat a rush to get the right speed on my freakin mouse finally!

I got mine set to 4 heheheheh I did try almost all of them and I am sure that they will be changes but I am at 4 for now and loving it!
