Anyone have experience with the old Drobo 2nd gen running FireWire 800 and the new 5D model with Thunderbolt? What is the real world speed improvement with the new 5D? Does it worth twice the price?

5D Drobo is expensive

I'd like to know this as well. I could sell my drobo 2nd gen for $200 on ebay, but the 5D one goes for a whopping $775 on Amazon.

So much faster in bootup and access time ...and i don't even have a USB 3.0 port or TB! That's how much better. Fast as other drives? No, but still all that drobo ease of use.

For me the bottleneck with the Drobo 2 was the reads to and writes from the array itself, not the type of connection to my iMac.
