I have a Drobo 5N that mostly our 2017 iMac uses. I'm seeing a couple of issues - I think it's just OSX doesn't play well with a network NAS.

1. I know iTunes really doesn't play well with a NAS, but I'm seeing quite often movies in our library will "loose" the metadata. But if I ctrl + i the movie the metadata is there and shows back up.

2. Occasionally the mapped drives just drop when we are working. We have to go back and remount them.

I want to upgrade our Drobo to the 5N2 (we also have a Macbook Pro that occasionally access the Drobo), but I'm not sure if my issues are with the Drobo, my iMac, the network or all of the above.

We had a couple Drobo 5Ns at work for years for backups and archives. I just retired them both, for similar issues. They were never fast, but seemed to drop connections recently, and were less than reliable....just what you are describing. Could be changes to AFP and SMB on newer MacOS.

I replaced them both with a Synology NAS, and I can report that over the last few months it has been rock solid, and the performance difference is eye opening.

My hunch is that The 5N was always underpowered (either CPU or RAM...or both). Can't speak to newer models.

I also really prefer a web interface compared to the Drobo management app too.
