I'd really prefer UAG cases but they are SO overpriced... I don't know how they stay in business charging 2 times the average case price.

Another option for you OP, especially if you carry your laptop around a lot, is a backpack with a suspended laptop compartment in it. I think a lot of Crumplers have something like that, there's also GORUCK but they're a bit of a ripoff IMO. Having the suspended compartment should keep the laptop safe from drops while it's in transit without the added bulk/aesthetic of a case.
