I've been having this same issue with Dropbox over and over. Indexing hangs endlessly. Nothing syncs. I've even bookmarked this page https://www.dropbox.com/help/72/en because it happens so often -- it fixes for a month or two, then same issue. What's different this time around is 1. I've upgraded to Mavericks, and 2. the latest DB client won't install. It will sit in unresponsive mode while DB tries to install. I have a 2011 MBP running OSX 10.9 with 8GB RAM.
I've been troubleshooting DB for 4 years and have been generally satisfied. This one has me stumped. I'm ready to punt on DB altogether, but figured I give one last effort. Quality of info on this forum is high quality, so I'm remaining hopeful here. Here's what I've done:
1. Quit DB app
2. Cleared out system folder in /~.dropbox
3. Tried to relaunch DB. Hangs again.
4. Unlinked my Mac (also blew away my iphone when I unlinked Mac... WTF?)
5. Cleared out DB cache on mac in ~/Dropbox/.dropbox.cache
6. Tried to relaunch DB. Hangs again.
7. Checked for bad files. A few with weird file name extensions, but I wiped those out. Repeated process. But DB bad file checking tool no longer works/runs (Error 500).
8. Tried to reinstall dropbox app with 2.4.7. Installer hangs endlessly. Need to manually quit
9. Verified and repaired disk permissions. No problem there.
10. Rebooted Mac.
11. Tried to install again. Installer hangs
Dropbox problem persists. Their support team is pretty weak. I've had good luck with other Mac issues on this forum.
