Dropbox to iCloud Drive. Back my stuff and then delete local?

Hi,

After a rubbish experience with Dropbox I am wanting to put all my music samples and videos on iCloud Drive. Just bought the 2tb storage option and only have the 1 MacBook at the moment. How do I drag my files from the external hard drive to iCloud Drive on the Mac so it can upload and then delete the local version on my MacBook as don’t want most of it on the MacBook.

iCloud Drive works exactly like Dropbox, meaning that it only serves as a mirror of what's stored locally on your Mac in a specific directory. In other words: you can't delete your files locally on your Mac and keep them in iCloud Drive at the same time.
