Would appreciate if anyone has had a similar unfortunate experience, I'm looking to pick up the 17PM on launch and trade in my 16PM with Apple as normal, but I've unfortunately dropped it after managing to keep it in mint condition for the last 12 months now the screen has cracked along with the back glass which is shattered. Phone still works luckily, but the timing couldn't be any worse.

I've got full Apple Care cover, but I'm not sure what to do in now in regard to the 17PM being right around the corner. Do I get the phone replaced by Apple now, then trade it back in with them for full value on the new replacement or would I be better waiting to trade it on on the day, not sure how that would work as I would be paying an excess to have a new phone that I'm immediately trading back to them?

You have Applecare so spend the $58 to get your iPhone 16 PM fixed now. Use the repair tool to estimate the cost if you don't want to believe the very low cost of the repair.

The same happened to me. My iPhone 16 pro screen shattered in the left corner. Since I don’t have apple care I will trade it in. Not sure repairing it and selling/trade in makes sense.

From what I understand Apple won't trade in a damaged iPhone with front/back glass damage, my 16PM is physically warped with the front/back glass shattered - It just seems awkward this close to the 17PM launching in a couple weeks to get another 16PM then to trade it back in with them. Wasn't sure if they could wangle the trade in without physically issuing me a new device on the trade in/purchase day - Just charge me the repair cost and complete the trade in for the technical replacement

I believe that’s possible with the store manager’s authorization.

Launch day weekend might not be the best time for that. They will most likely just fix the screen and not replace the phone. I wouldn't want the extra hassle of trying to do that at trade in. Even if they do authorize, doing that is going to take more time then I would want to spend. Pay the $58 and fix it.

I have the same issue. I dropped my 15PM 2 weeks ago and assumed the screen protector cracked until I changed it and discovered the screen cracked as well. I’m going to have the screen replaced with AppleCare+, the week before the keynote and trade it in with Apple towards the 17PM.
