So after nearly 18 months of ownership, I dropped my M1 MBA for the first time about 3ft onto a concrete floor.

It was closed at the time. No damage to the screen or casing that I can see, not even a tiny dent or scratch, the trackpad is working fine, keyboard works fine etc. In other words, there's no visible sign of anything wrong, which surprised me.

Should I be concerned? Is there likely to be internal damage or am I worrying too much?

Thanks

If when off you shake it and its dead quiet along with your visual inspection and when powered no screen issues, consider yourself very fortunate.

Nothing sounds like its rolling around or loose inside when I do this, no screen issues. Guess I was very lucky on this occasion.

Also ran Apple's system diagnostic and no issues found.

Just don't do that again. But good to know they're built as solidly as they feel.

Good to hear! You must be relieved. Especially glad to hear that the screen didn't crack!

The nice thing about them being as light as they are and an all aluminum build is they have a better chance of surviving these drops.
I've seen a video a while back showing drop tests comparing the Pro model iPhone with the regular one and the Pro did worse. The reviewer said the same thing that it might be due to the lighter weight of the aluminum vs stainless steel. I have the M2 Air and TBH it feels kind of thin. It's not like it flexes when I pick it up or anything but I would be really scared if I ever dropped it.

I think that goes for any laptop really. My wife’s blade 15 feels very solid, but I would cringe if that ever fell on the floor lol

I've owned several very heavy gaming laptops that I've never dropped but I'm sure if I did those would be the ones to completely self destruct. I imagine plastic flying everywhere 🤣
