Hi everyone.
Thx in advance for any advice.

Dropped my 2013 MBA.

Turned it on right after, saw a folder on the display. I assumed I killed the SSD.

Closed the lid and waited a while - couldn't deal with it on the spot because of school work (PC for that).

Tried to turn it on yesterday. Dead. Ok. Plugged it in. Red light. Ok. Checked after 15 minutes. Won't charge. Charger is cold to touch.

Won't turn on it all. Nothing on screen.

Weird.

Did a SMC reset. No go. Still the same issue.

Put my ear on the touchpad area as I was pushing the power button. I can hear a small "click" sound. As if the computer is trying to wake itself up maybe? Or turn itself on? But nothing happens.

Also, light on the charger (while plugged in of course), is green. As if it's fully charged. But it can't be fully charged, I suppose, since I let it die, and it did not charge since (i kept checking the charger and it was always cold).

Anyone has a clue what I am dealing with here?

Thanks so much!!!

Open it up and see what if anything has been damaged. It might be something as simple as a dislodged or loose connection caused by the drop. Or it may be more serious. But you're not going to find out unless you open it up and take a look. For guidance on how to get into your MBA and what tools you'll need, go here:

Try this:

  1. disconnect the battery, gently touch parts of the logic board, SSD, Bluetooth card for any signs of movement. If there are any, get the necessary screwdrivers to remove and re-install the parts;
  2. check for loose connections; and
  3. leave the battery disconnected, connect the charger, don't touch any keys, and see if the MacBook powers up on its own after 60 seconds.

Yeah, I'm guessing the main board is damaged somehow.. one of the power rails is missing...but do as others said and see what you find.

Also, like on a PC, you can do a power drain. Is there a option for this on MacBook?
On PC, you'd remove the battery/power, the hold the power button for a minute. Once done reconnect everything, and test...

Yeah, I think I've read that before somewhere.. Something like that..

my M1 Air is doing the exact same thing right now. Has not been dropped. Was working on FCP video, closed lid for 10 min then opened lid and screen black with tapping noise in a pattern. 3 taps, 1 tap, 3 taps, 1 tap. Darn I think i'll end up losing my project.
