.DS_store?

this file thing keeps popping up on my desktop every time i do something, like delete the file and empty the trash can it pops up again. can anyone tell me how to remove it and stop it from popping up again
 
You can't stop them, they store the Finder preferences of where items are, colors, etc...they shouldn't be showing unless you have Hidden Files enabled in Finder.

Of course the files can be hidden, that's not the point. You can also hide a bullet wound with a cloth napkin but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Anyway, there are good reasons to show hidden files, such as catching a huge vulnerability like this...

For those of us who don't want a perpetual log of every folder ever created (etc) has any figured out a way to actually permanently delete or reset this?

Honestly, I would not have gone with OS X if I knew about this. Someone in another thread recommended OnyX, but that doesn't do the trick. Nor does MacScan, IceClean, TipToe, Cocktail, Yasu, or saving the .ds_store file with modified or blank contents.

How is the .ds_store file a "huge vulnerability? Can someone throw a virus into it?

Btw, why do you have enabled the showing of hidden files, if it annoys you?

Maybe someone could reprogram Mac OS X and its file system to prevent the creation of .ds_store files, though it might be a bit harder than writing a fart app I suppose. Is there any Mac OS X fart app available on the Mac App Store? Maybe it can help the brain???

It's not a vulnerability or a problem. You simply don't understand what .DS_Store files are used for.

It's not a log of any kind. You're speaking out of ignorance. Do yourself a favor and educate yourself on what .DS_Store files are, before you embarrass yourself any further.

Windows has the same thing. Windows has desktop.ini files for the same purpose, and you can't permanently get rid of those, either.

None of those will work, because .DS_Store files are created by Mac OS X for a purpose. You don't need to try to delete them all or prevent them from being created. Read and learn:
