I'm looking to pick up a Sandy Bridge 15" Macbook Pro. Can I drive two 24" Apple Cinema Displays with this thing? I'm thinking two 24" displays might be better than one 27"

Thanks...!

That doesn't work with the ACDs, they are mini display port only. Plus the USB adapter solution sucks for anything that isn't static on the screen. USB just doesn't have the bandwidth to do moving stuff, especially with higher resolutions.

My bad, I have never had them so I just assumed they were the same.

hmm...any way to connect two 24" non-apple displays?

I don't believe so. While the MBP's support dual-link DVI (to drive the 27" and 30" ACDs), they do not support dual-display, which is what you need to drive two monitors.

Good luck with even using the 24" Cinema Display with your Thunderbolt equipped MBP. So many people are having problems with flickering and black outs that the displays are pretty much useless. The past couple of updates were supposed to fix the problem, but it really didn't change at all. People are saying it is the Thunderbolt port, because the 24" Cinema Display doesn't work well with the iMacs either.

Here is the link to the thread on Apple Support forums about the 24" Cinema Display compatibility issues.

Is it JUST the 24"?

Seems like the 2011 MBPs might be having some issues. I read on here that if I stick a SSD in place of the standard hard drive I won't be able to update the firmware.

WTF...?
