I have two 30in Cinema displays on my Mac Pro each driven from a different video card working fine for a long time. After an electrical storm this week one stopped working.

I did the usual checks, the computer thinks they are both up and running, and the Get Info sees both nVidia cards as okay, I moved the video cards and switched which monitor was plugged into the other. Still one would not work so I pulled the monitor in question and it's brick and plugged it into a Mac Mini. It worked fine so I assumed all was okay, reconnected everything back to my desktop Mac and again one monitor will not work but the computer sees it as there and on.

Tried swapping the two bricks out and noticed that one was cold, and sure enough the blank monitor switched to the warm brick and the first monitor comes on and the other goes off.

Here is the problem if you did not catch it, I pulled the cold brick off again and moved the second monitor (now dark) to the mini Mac and it comes on correctly!

I'm confused, why the brick and subsequently the monitor works fine plugged into the mini Mac but not the desktop Mac. It appears all video cards are fine, and both monitors are fine, but one power brick is not working on the desktop Mac while working fine when used at the mini Mac.

Any suggestions? Should I simply replace the brick? I am not working right now so I don't want to run out and buy one only to find out this is not the problem.

Thanks.
