My brother has one, and wants an external hd. I was going to buy a internal drive and through it in this usb 2.0 case I have but, I just realized he might not have usb 2.0. Does anyone know what he's got. It's a g4 450mhz dual processor w/ some blue on the front, dvd drive.

seeing as USB 2.0 was non existant when that computer was made its most likely got 1.1
either way your drive should run fine on usb1.1 or 1.0 it'll just be slow like 6-7mbps max

It does have firewire, maybe it's worth to invest in a firewire external exclosure? It probably also have usb 2 port next to it.
Also consider that you cannot boot from USB drives, not that you would want to on usb 1.x but it won't work on 2.0 either. I'd go with either a firewire enclosure as suggested or just put the internal drive in the G4. It will support 2 drives up to 120 GB without any additional hardware.
