I tried setting up my Macbook Pro (7.1) to dual boot Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Ubuntu (I tried 12.04 and 12.10, but i don't think it contributed to the problem.) I used rEFIt to change my boot menu to let me boot the linux CD. Somewhere in this process I have messed up the internal HDD and the major partition. Somehow I'm still able to access the recovery partition, but the other partition will unmount and mount itself at random times. When it finally works and i'm able to install mountain lion from a recovery USB it will install the operating system and start up, but will freeze up and I will have to reboot the computer. Any idea why the partition keeps unmounting itself?
