Hi guys and gals
im new here, thought i would post as i have read a lot of the forms and this seems to be the place for mac knowledge.
Let me start by saying im not usually a mac user, i work for a college which is starting to buy in a lot more macs
I am now being asked to set them up.
Luckly for me i found a great piece of software called deploy studio really enough about it
As it makes imaging an mac as easy as ghosting a pc
My problem comes when i need to dual boot the macs, and bind them to the domain.
At the moment im leaving the mac osx side of things alone, install software , take image, deploy image from osx server.
thats all great and fine.
Now i dont want to be setting up 50 macs with windows xp as with the amount of work required it would take months.
I know about winclone and it seems to be a pretty good program, but i have one single problem with it.... it doesnt work with my xp image
when you use the bootcamp assistant to make the windows partation, it formats it in FAT32 but mine winclone image is NTFS
So this means i need to load the xp install cd and run the installer which could take at least 1- 2 hours depending on the speed of the mac
Which when you take the number of macs i need to do, is a lot of wasted hours
and thats just installing xp!!!!
i have searched around and i see that there isnt any (that i could find) programs that will format FAT32 to NTFS in mac osx
Now my next problem, after i have installed xp on my windows partation. reboot my mac go into mac osx load up winclone and do a clone of my xp image
it blue screens every time!
So after about 5 failed attemps with this i went back to looking for another soultion, i found barts pe soultion ( boot up using barts pe, boot into an imaging tool that was installed on the cd, take an image and store it on the usb hard drive)
Ok that was fine got my image put it on the hard drive and then tried to load it onto another machine, problem being that the hard drive size of my image was to big for the next machine, i may have formatted the hard drive with a slightly bigger size than the last one, i wasnt sure
So after that i have finally given up dual boot cloning and i am hoping somebody has another idea that i could do
O btw i forgot to mention the 50 or so macs i have arent all the same type ie
i have macbook pros, macbooks, i macs and mini macs
which i have found out you need a seperate image for each one.... which i cant understand because with windows and ghost you only need one image and just a drivers folder and it will image any pc?
So any suggestions would be great
cheers
