I just bought a 128GB Samsung 470 (plus 8GB of Crucial RAM). My original plan was to install Lion on the 470 then swap out the HD. However, recently I've become allured by a dual drive rig. I'm considering buying one of those optical drive adapters and throwing the SSD in there while leaving the HD in its original home. The installation seems simple enough, but I have a few questions about accessing the HD. I would boot from the SSD and essentially keep all my programs and files on it, while using the HD as more of backup, or archive for less frequently used files. Additionally, the HD would run Snow Leopard.
How exactly will it look? Everytime I boot up my Lion powered SSD, does a disk icon for the HD appear on the desktop or in the finder? Do you hear the HD initiate anytime the computer is booted up? Short of designating the HD in the startup disk panel, is there anyway to enter SL?
Thanks!
