Hi, I want to buy a Lacie d2 dual layer burner (firewire) and I was wondering if it was fully functional with a G3 iMac 500mHz with 640 mb RAM. I'm running 10.4. The specs state you need a G4 500mhz but will the G3 work?

Thanks

If the specs say no then it won't work.. and I wouldn't tempt it.

If they could have gotten it to work on a G3, you think they would put that it was capable in order to sell to the G3 owners. I reckon that it needs the altivec or the processings.

Hey,
I used to use one of those burners on my G3 700mhz, the only problem I had was that the firewire connection wouldn't work so I had to use the USB which made it a pretty slow process. I think that that may have just been a problem with that individual drive though, I'm not sure. Worked fine through USB though.
Cheers.

works just fine on my G3 imac 500mhz... but I am burning at 4X only
since my disks are limited to that speed ( hey they were 50 DVD's for $12)
