Dual Monitor Use w/ Alu 20" iMac

I've got a previous generation aluminum 20" iMac and just connected a 20" Cinema display. I'm running 10.5.2. Couple problems I've encountered...

1) I don't want the 2nd display powered up all the time, but when I go to turn it off it asks me if I want to power down the computer or put it to sleep. Is there any way around this? Or am I stuck with the monitor on all the time?

2) Is there any way to have the dock on the left hand of the screen on my right screen? My guess is probably not.

No, and No unfortunately. I wish there was a way to disable the second display when not in use. I have my TV hooked up to my iMac, but I don't want it active all the time.
