I had ordered a dual processor 2.3 ghz machine, and with the updates today I am being asked to change my order.

I am being presented by apple with a choice- either take a dual 2.7 Ghz g5, or go with a new 2.3 ghz dual core.

What are your opinions here? The machine will be used primarily for Final Cut Pro.

apple is letting you choose?

I know there both hella nice machines...... i haven't looked at any of the benchmarks so i wouldn't know which is faster...

although the new dual core includes alot of new technology that the 2.7 doesn't have...

My guess is they no longer have any new dual processor 2.3 Ghz machines, and so I was sent an email to choose either the same set up I ordered with a 2.7 Ghz in place of the 2.3, OR I could get a new single processor dual core 2.3 Ghz.

I went ahead and got the new one, but i wonder if i made the right choice. I would love to hear people's opinion as it is not too late to change to the 2.7 Ghz.

I think you made the right decision. The 2.7 may be a little faster but the new 2.3 has a much better video card as well as DDR2 RAM.

speed isnt everything.. and dual cores are generally more powerful than dual processors, isnt that why they are becomming so popular?

i think you made the right choice here, plus, its even newer.

im kind of bummed because i ordered a refurb pb for 100 less than the new pbs..

thanks for the input, i was having a little buyer's remorse immediately after going with the new dual core, but after thinking about it, even though the 2.7 is probably faster in some tests, the DDR2 and PCI-Express will give the machine a longer lifespan. Currently i am using FCP 3 on a single processor G4 450 Mhz machine, so this is going to be a huge improvement. thanks again, now i just have to wait for it to ship.

Would they let you pony up the difference and let you pick a quad core? After all, when you ordered, you asked for top-of-the-line performance... Only seems fair to me...

mkae sure you check out FCP 5

mmmm mmm thats a nice jump also

Congrads on your purchase!
You've made the right choice. I would've def gotten the dual core 2.3 over single core 2.7
Let us know how it runs when you get it... ;)
