Does battery life take a big hit when running dual sim / eSim, my 13 Pro's battery drains much faster when using dual sim's / eSim compared to have only one sim / eSim connected

It depends on how good the reception is. If you have one of those 2 providers with low signal always it will use up more battery. I made the experience when I use it with 2 SIM`s of the same carrier it is barely noticeable.

Only “low signal” can be a drain.

I turn off SIM2 when data on SIM1 is adequate, and go airplane mode when home.

I’m resurrecting this thread because I’m planning to use the dual SIM feature of my SE3.

The two SIMs use the same network. My question is: Whenever the signal is low, will it drain the battery at double the rate? Or just at the same rate?

Is the SE3 good at this? Any iPhone 13 or SE3 testimony will be welcome.

I found using the dual sim function on the SE killed the battery off too quickly from the SE would need to be charged well before the end of the day it forced me to upgrade to an iPhone with a bigger battery

It’s probably the same.

When I was on vacation, I definitely needed to carry a power bank to top up in the middle of the day. However, that’s likely because I’m using the SE3 way more than normal for communicating, using ewallet apps, taking pics, checking for restaurants, etc.

At out Airbnb rental, wifi was super unstable so my SE3 was just on cellular the entire time. Battery drain was similar to what I normally see daily.

Fwiw, I barely use my SE3 at home and work. My typical onscreen time is less than 10 minutes per day. I was definitely using the SE3 way more than that on vacation.

P.S.
I actually still have my SE3 on dual SIM right now with my Philippine eSIM on roaming (need it for OTP for Philippine bank accounts and e-wallet). Battery life seems the same as when I only had one SIM.

I'm using an eSIM and physical at the same time on my 12 mini, and to be honest, I can't tell the difference in battery drain even though this mini of mine is now going on 5 years old, so it is starting to show its age either way. The mini range has also not had the best battery life to begin with which is probably why Apple killed them off.

But right now, if I'm at home doing nothing with my phone and even if both sims are on, it will stand by for the whole day. Yet when I go out and even with only 1 sim in use I can kill it in a few short hours; streaming music via BT headphones, taking photos and video, and of course the biggest battery killer; navigating with GPS.

Anyway, I've got my eyes on a 15 now (new), where I'm guessing dual sim is a non-issue when it comes to battery drain rate, even if signal is weak. What I think really matters is what you are doing with your phone, not number of sims in use.

The reason I'm looking into using dual sim on a daily basis for maybe a few more months; a new provider in Belgium has just come to market with a €5 plan that gives you unlimited local calling, €0,01 calls to the rest of Europe and 15GB data, all of which you can use in the rest of the EU. But I want to test them out a bit first with my primary number still with a well established provider. We have these functions on devices we pay good money for, so might as well use them.
