I don't really see what good having two sets of speakers will do. But each to there own i guess, you'll probably find that your external speakers will be better.

Oh and it doesn't say it is mac compatible on that page... although its dirt cheap. It may not let you use two soundcards at once either, i've used an external sound card (firewire mixer) before and only one would work at a time on a global level, in logic i could use either.

If it doesn't work in the jack of the iMac, it probably won't work on there either. Sorry!

If anything the adapter as simulated 5.1 sound. I buddy as similar and it worked well. I just don't know if all these adapters are the same, so I can be getting nothing good out of it.
