Anyone have experience with these things?

I just tried for 3 hours to get these to work over some coax and got no where with them. There isn't much online regarding how to troubleshoot these things and I'm fairly skeptical of the 5 reviews on Amazon (all 5 stars?).
Anyone else think this might be a sham product? I even tried these things with a small 1 ft. coax cable and they still didn't work. Very fishy...
